Don’t be a CopyCat

Parents across Lancashire are being reminded to set a good example to their children.

Lancashire County Council’s Road Safety Group is supporting the Department for Transport’s (DfT) ‘CopyCat’ campaign.

Clare Farrer, Deputy Group Manager, said:

“ With around 11,500 children killed or injured on Britain's roads as passengers, pedestrians or cyclists it’s really important to teach children to stay safe. Children will copy what you do you so make sure you follow your own rules and act safely at all times.”

To help you do this the Road Safety Group has given the following reminders.

  • Don’t use your mobile when crossing the road. Teach your children to concentrate on the roads and they are much less likely to be injured as a result of being distracted.
  • Never cross when the red man is showing. Although the roads may appear to be clear you need to teach your children to always wait for the green man.
  • Always wear your seatbelt. Children will follow your lead and if you aren’t wearing your, seatbelt why should they?
  • Finally remember that you are the adult and children will follow your lead. Always follow your own rules and keep yourself and your children safe.

The Road Safety Group would like to hear how you teach your children/grandchildren about road safety. Email your ideas to roadsafety@lancashire.gov.uk or by post to ‘Parent Tips’, Road Safety Group , Guild House, FREEPOST PR 844 PRESTON PR1 3BR.
