Pennine Bridleway

The Pennine Bridleway is a new National Trail in the north of England, being planned and designed specifically for horse riders, off-road cyclists and walkers to enjoy. It will eventually run from the High Peak Trail in Derbyshire to Byrness, Northumberland, a distance of 560km (350 miles) and is due to be opened in 2004. The Mary Towneley Loop, a 68km (42 mile) circular route in the South Pennines is the first part of the Pennine Bridleway National Trail to be opened in Summer 2002. You can enjoy a short section of this Loop on a day visit or complete the circuit over a few days - It makes the ideal weekend getaway! The Trail is well signposted with no stiles or steps, just easy to use gates and special road crossing points. Let nature be the only challenge!
