The car park at Lancashire Record Office on Bow Lane in Preston will be closed to visitors until further notice.
The closure will allow for essential repair and maintenance work to be carried out to the outside of the storage tower.
Lancashire Record Office will remain open as usual, but people visiting the Record Office will have to make alternative arrangements for parking.
Arrangements have been made for Record Office visitors who are blue badge holders to use the Register Office car park at the corner of Arthur Street from Monday to Thursday while our own car park is closed. Because of the need to provide parking for weddings this facility will not be available on Friday or Saturday.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused. For more information about Lancashire Record Office please contact 01772 533039.

How will it affect visitors?
Last year a serious building defect was identified at the Record Office, and work will shortly begin to address the problem. While the work will not require the closure of the Record Office, there will be an impact on all visitors to the Office, but particularly those travelling by car, and disabled visitors. What problems will there be? We will lose about half the carparking spaces for the duration of the work as the builders will need the end nearest County Hall as an area for plant and materials. We will therefore need to temporarily relocate Disabled parking to the area adjacent to the Disabled access at the entrance to the carpark. Although we will need to keep access clear to the loading bay door, we should be able to create a temporary space there for those unable to walk round from the main carpark. At least one other space will be allocated round in the main carpark restricted to disabled visitors. The location of this will be chosen when we have more idea where will be best once the size and shape of the builder's compound is finalised. Disabled visitors will be escorted up through the new stack. When? The job is due to start about 16 June and is of a 14 week duration (all being well), through to the end of September. We apologise in advance to all visitors for the inconvenience which will be caused, not least for the noise, but this is work which has to be carried out now, regardless of the outcome of our application to the Heritage Lottery Fund to redevelop the building in a more radical manner. So please bear with us, for what we hope will be a limited period of time!
