Lancashire boasts a passionate love of sport and a genuine willingness to compete at any level. This dedication and enthusiasm has led to the provision of excellent facilities for a wide range of sporting activities, for any age and ability.

In every area of the county you'll find sports and leisure centres offering a full range of activities, from aerobics and archery to swimming and squash. Many have cycling tracks, outdoor and indoor courts, swimming pools and all-weather pitches, and ample provisions for club activities ensure that all sections of the community are catered for. There are also specialist facilities for unusual or high-level sporting activity.

Chorley hosted the 2002 Commonwealth Games outdoor cycling events. The borough offers road cyclists and mountain bikers both challenging routes like the Commonwealth Games course at Rivington and more leisurely routes on the rolling countryside to the west of the town.

Climbing
Chorley and neighbouring Preston have fine climbing walls for those who want to try this challenging sport in a safe environment, or improve upon their skills.

Football Clubs
Preston is the proud home of Preston North End Football Club. North End was one of the founder members of the Football League and the club has invested millions in redeveloping the Deepdale Stadium to include two new stands and a new leisure centre.

Turf Moor, the home of Burnley Football Club, has a sports and leisure club where visitors can get fit alongside their favourite footballer - if they are lucky!

The Deepdale Stadium home to Preston North End Football Club also features the National Football Museum.

The Preston Sports Arena
The Preston Sports Arena provides state of the art facilities and an athletics track. The £12m complex, which opened in 2000, features a number of sporting facilities including a cycling track, floodlit netball and tennis courts, all - weather floodlit pitches and much more.

Four world-famous championship golf courses including Royal Lytham & St Annes are among the recreation and sports facilities in Fylde.
