Lancashire County Council is responsible for delivering many services including:
- 462 primary schools;
- 81 secondary schools;
- providing support for vulnerable children and older people;
- maintaining 6,929 kilometres (4,306 miles) of road;
- disposing of 664,000 tonnes of waste; and
- providing a stock of 1.6 million library books
In undertaking these services it has an annual budget for 2008/09 of £683 million.
